Anthropic says Claude will stay ad-free, and buys a Super Bowl spot to say so
Anthropic committed to keeping Claude free of ads on every plan, free tier included, and promoted the pledge with Super Bowl commercials that poked fun at ads in AI chats.
On 4 February 2026, Anthropic said plainly: "Claude will remain ad-free."
What the pledge covers
- No sponsored links next to conversations.
- No advertiser influence on Claude's responses.
- No third-party product placements in answers.
- It applies to the free tier and all paid plans.
Anthropic says it funds Claude through subscriptions and enterprise contracts instead of advertising, and framed a conversation with an AI assistant as a place where ads don't belong.
The Super Bowl campaign
Anthropic promoted the pledge with Super Bowl commercials showing, for laughs, how ads could interrupt an AI conversation. The timing was pointed: weeks earlier OpenAI had announced it would test ads in ChatGPT's Free and Go tiers.
Will it last?
Some coverage described the commitment as holding "for now", and sceptics question whether a frontier AI lab can stay ad-free indefinitely. So far there has been no sign of a reversal.
What it means for marketers
Claude is not, and is not planned to be, a paid channel. Brands reach Claude users the same way they reach Perplexity users: by being the clear, well-documented, citable answer when Claude searches the web or draws on what it already knows.
ChatGPT ads expand to 26 more countries, 89 markets in total
OpenAI is switching on ChatGPT advertising in 26 more countries, including 14 in Latin America, taking the ads business to 89 markets as it builds revenue ahead of a possible IPO.
ChatGPT ads will rewrite your creative by default from 30 October
OpenAI is turning on "creative enhancements" for all self-serve ChatGPT campaigns on 30 October 2026. Headlines, descriptions, images and even landing URLs can be adapted per conversation unless advertisers opt out.
